A review of Swallows Return by Maz written on Thursday 3rd of February 2011
My family and i used to frequent the "Swallows" regularly up until approx 3 years ago. We were there for an evening meal for a birthday and were so dissappointed with the lack of food on the plates plus the vegetables were hard and tasteless and we thought rather pricey for what we were given. Consequently we decided that we would not waste our time and money going back, especially when there are so many better restaurants to choose from. The only lovely thing about the place is the actual building with the open fires and cosy feel also of course watching the Swallows in the summer. Yesterday however i had popped to visit my Mother and we wanted lunch and thought maybe!!! this place may have improved. Sadly this was not the case, the meals were there on the plate (just) very small portions and the green beans were so tough i had to send them back, admitted they were replaced 8 minutes later when our meals were almost finished, once again they were hot but tastless and tough as old boots. I told the waitress who was apologetic and i asked her to tell the chef also when i went up to pay i mentioned it again to the man behind the bar whom i believe was the manager on duty. He was pretty unhelpful but did say he would tell the chef. This time it was definitely the last time we will visit. A total waste of money..
